What We Love

Laguna Beach

We like Laguna for the way it holds the coast at a slower register than the rest of Southern California. Mornings begin in mist and salt air, the cliffs turn rose-gold at dusk, and the village keeps a pace that was decided by the painters who arrived in 1917. The homes we steward in Laguna Beach cluster within a few blocks of each other in North Laguna, on Sleepy Hollow Lane and Gaviota Drive, all an easy walk to Crescent Bay, Shaw's Cove, and the village. We are grateful to the owners who chose Everyday Luxury to look after these places, and we feel lucky every time a guest finds their stay through us. Owners who want to talk about joining the portfolio can learn more on our Property Management Page.

The Destination

An Artists' Colony That Became a Coastal Icon

Laguna Beach is one of the few places on the California coast that has resisted the pull of the ordinary. Protected marine reserves, more than thirty beaches and hidden coves, and a cultural life shaped by a century of artists choosing to live and paint by the sea.

The town draws close to three million visitors each year, and most come back. Not for a resort or a single landmark, but for a quality of atmosphere that is difficult to describe and easy to recognise: the smell of salt and eucalyptus on the morning air, the way the cliffs turn rose-gold at dusk, the sense that the pace of life here has been deliberately preserved.

In 1917, a group of painters from Los Angeles drove south along a rutted coastal road until the cliffs opened onto a crescent of sand and turquoise water. Norman St. Clair, Frank Cuprien, and a handful of others built studios above the coves and began painting at dawn, plein air, in the salt wind, chasing the way Pacific light changed every ten minutes. From those sessions grew the Festival of Arts, established in 1932. The Pageant of the Masters followed two years later, and has run almost without interruption ever since. The artists came for one season. Many never left.

Year-round

Season at a glance

Winter

Dec – Feb

50–67°F

The locals' season. Empty beaches at sunrise, dramatic surf, the lowest rates of the year.

Spring

Mar – May

55–70°F

Wildflower walks above the canyons, mostly clear afternoons, with the occasional grey morning that burns off by lunch.

Summer

Jun – Aug

60–75°F

Festival of Arts, Pageant of the Masters, the warmest water of the year, and the busiest stretch on Pacific Coast Highway.

Fall

Sep – Nov

55–73°F

Many locals' favourite weeks. The crowds thin after Labor Day, the sky stays clear, and the water is still warm enough to swim.

Local Treasures

Things our guests love to do

A handful of moments that travel home with people. Scroll across. Laguna rewards anyone who slows down enough to notice the difference between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Sunrise over Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach

Early morning

Sunrise at Crescent Bay

The cleanest start to a Laguna day. Park above the bluff just before first light, walk down the wooden stairs, and watch the sky shift through five colours over the cliffs at the north end. By 7:30 the surfers arrive; the hour before is yours.

Summer evening in Laguna Beach

Summer evenings

Pageant of the Masters

The town's summer ritual since 1934. Living tableaux of famous paintings, staged outdoors on a hillside amphitheatre, a full orchestra in the pit, and a moment partway through every show when you stop being able to tell the difference between the actors and the canvas.

Clifftop walk above Heisler Park in Laguna Beach

Late afternoon

The Heisler Park clifftop walk

A paved path along the bluff, palm trees on one side, the marine reserve on the other, and benches placed exactly where you will want to sit. Twenty minutes end to end, an hour if you stop. The light at 4 p.m. in winter is the reason photographers move here.

Tide pools in South Laguna Beach

Low tide

Tide pools at Treasure Island

Check the tide chart for anything below 1.5 feet, then head to Treasure Island Park in South Laguna. The tide pools open into anemone, hermit crab, and the occasional small octopus. Bring soft-soled shoes and the kids; the rangers ask that nothing leaves the pools.

Surfers at Aliso Beach in South Laguna

Mid-morning

A walk to Aliso Beach

South Laguna's open-water beach, with a creek mouth, a long stretch of sand, and a small surf break that breaks both directions on a south swell. Fewer crowds than Main Beach, easier parking, and a coffee shop across PCH for the walk back.

Laguna Beach village and gallery district

Quiet afternoons

An hour at the Laguna Art Museum

The oldest cultural institution in town, founded in 1918 by the same painters who started the Festival of Arts. The permanent collection traces a century of California plein-air work. Forty minutes is enough; rainy mornings make it perfect.

GREAT place to stay

This was a GREAT place to stay! Beach front, clean, had everything we needed (including beach towels, chairs, cookware, extra pillows/bedding, etc.), and was in a perfect location.

We were able to walk to the grocery store right across the street and walked to the Pageant of the Masters.

Overall 5 stars for EVERYTHING.

Beautifully designed with a clean, modern coastal vibe

This was truly one of my favorite stays in Laguna Beach! The villa is perched right on the oceanfront with breathtaking, unobstructed views and direct beach access—just steps from the sand. The location couldn't be more ideal: a short stroll to Main Beach, and surrounded by top-notch dining, charming cafés, and boutique shops. Once we arrived, we never needed to get back in the car—everything we needed was right at our doorstep.

We stayed in the Majorca Villa, which was beautifully designed with a clean, modern coastal vibe. It had plenty of space to spread out, and the oversized jetted tub in the master bathroom was such a relaxing bonus. The two private decks were perfect for morning coffee and sunset views, and the gas grill made for easy, fun meals at home.

Sunset Cove Villas exceeded expectations in every way. If you're looking for luxury, convenience, and the quintessential Laguna Beach experience, this is the place!

Perfect place to rest and recharge

I stayed at Laguna Beach Villa with my family, and it was absolutely beautiful! It's the perfect place to rest and recharge. The villa has a balcony with an amazing view of the ocean, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves felt so peaceful and relaxing—like sleeping right under the ocean. Everything about the place made our stay comfortable and memorable. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect getaway!

Perfect location for beach, restaurants and shopping

Perfect location for beach, restaurants and shopping. Once we parked the car, we walked or took the trolley. The view is fantastic, love sitting on the balcony with coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night. The condo was great, plenty of room for two of us - it had everything we needed.

Super cool place. Great room

Super cool place. Great room. All you hear throughout the night is waves crashing on the shore. The shared deck has an amazing view. And just steps down to the sand. A fantastic taco place 100 yards away. Giant walk-in shower. Comfortable bed. I will be going back to this room a lot in the future.

The location is fantastic

We thoroughly enjoyed the ocean views from the patio & living room of this property. There was a surfing event during our stay. We had fun watching the surfers while drinking our coffee in the morning light. The location is fantastic - you're able to walk to many restaurants and shops. We hope to stay here again in the future!

Before You Book

Laguna Beach FAQs

A few things guests ask us most often before they choose their stay.

When is the best time of year to visit Laguna Beach?

September and October are the most reliably beautiful weeks of the year. The crowds thin after Labor Day, the sky stays clear, and the water is still warm enough to swim. Summer is busiest and best if you want the festivals; winter is quietest and brings the lowest rates and the most dramatic surf.

How do we handle parking?

Every Laguna Beach property we manage includes private parking on site. An optional additional parking fee may apply depending on the home; we will communicate the exact figure before you book. Because most beaches and the village are within walking distance from our cluster, many guests park once on arrival and leave the car for the rest of the stay.

How close are your homes to the beach?

Very. Our Laguna Beach properties cluster within a few blocks of each other in North Laguna, on Sleepy Hollow Lane and Gaviota Drive. From the homes you can walk to Crescent Bay, Shaw's Cove, and Diver's Cove in roughly five to ten minutes, with Heisler Park and Main Beach a slightly longer stroll south. We are always looking to partner with more owners in the area, so the collection grows over time.

Are pets welcome at your Laguna homes?

Several of our Laguna homes welcome pets, with a small additional cleaning fee. We can filter to pet-friendly homes when we help you choose. A note on the beach: most Laguna beaches restrict dogs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. between June and September. Off-season and outside those hours, dogs on leash are welcome on most stretches.

What happens during festival season?

The Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters run from early July through the end of August, alongside the Sawdust Art Festival just across Laguna Canyon Road. Town gets busier and rates rise, but the energy is part of what makes summer Laguna special. Book early if you want a specific home for festival dates; the best stays go six to nine months out.

Is Laguna Beach a good fit for families?

Yes, and it is one of the easier California beach towns to bring kids to. The coves are protected, the tide pools are accessible, the lifeguards are excellent, and the village is walkable enough for ice cream after dinner. Several of our homes have multiple bedrooms, pools, and outdoor space designed for longer family stays.

Where are the best restaurants?

A few we point guests toward: 242 Cafe Fusion Sushi for an unfussy dinner, The Cliff for sunset views, Nick's Laguna Beach for the village walk-in, and South of Nick's for the South Laguna evening. If you tell us the kind of night you want (date night, easy lunch, family table, something with a view), we can point you in the right direction.

Which airport should we fly into?

John Wayne (SNA) in Orange County is closest, about 25 minutes by car and the easiest in and out. Long Beach (LGB) is roughly 45 minutes. LAX is about 75 minutes in good traffic and longer on a Friday afternoon, so weigh the flight savings against the drive.

Do the homes have heated pools?

None of our current Laguna Beach homes have a heated pool. Most guests find that the protected coves and swim beaches a few minutes' walk away (Crescent Bay, Shaw's Cove, Diver's Cove) are the better answer for most of the year. We are always looking to partner with more owners in the area, so a pool home may join the collection in the future. If pool access is essential for your trip, tell us what you have in mind and we will let you know what we can offer today.

Can we walk to most things?

Yes. Our Laguna Beach homes cluster within a few blocks of each other in North Laguna, and from there you can walk to the beach, Heisler Park, Forest Avenue, and most of the village. Park the car when you arrive; you will likely use it again only for a drive south to Aliso Beach or out for dinner.

Are the beaches and water safe for swimming?

Most Laguna beaches have lifeguards in season and clearly marked swim zones. The protected coves (Crescent Bay, Shaw's Cove, Diver's Cove, Treasure Island) are calmer and good for kids; Main Beach and Aliso are more open. Always check posted conditions and listen to the lifeguards. Tide pool walks are best at a tide of 1.5 feet or lower.

What is your cancellation policy?

Plans change, and a thoughtful cancellation policy is part of how we look after every guest. Terms vary by home and by season, so the policy that applies to your stay is shown in full on the reservation page when you begin a booking for any Everyday Luxury Curated listing. You can also read it in advance on our cancellation policy page (opens in a new tab). If your dates need to move, reach out early and we will do everything we can to reschedule or re-accommodate.

I own a home in Laguna. Are you taking on new properties to manage?

Yes, and thank you for thinking of us. The Everyday Luxury portfolio in Laguna grows when owners decide we are the right fit to look after their home, and we treat every conversation that way. Visit our Property Management Page to learn how we work, what we offer, and how to start a conversation.
